Garfield minus Garfield

As a kid, I have to admit to owning a few editions of Garfield comic strip collections. I was 10 years old and hadn’t discovered the wide world of Calvin & Hobbes or The Far Side yet.  A while back I read about a website that edited Garfield out of the strip, so all that was left was Jon Arbuckle… named “garfield minus garfield“.

The website states:

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.

I’ve checked out quite a few of the strips… amusing stuff! I wonder how anyone came up with the idea to do this?
